New 2nd Floor site goes live.

posted by Scott on February 24th, 2009

After months of planning, designs, re-designs, and coding (100% new, clean, and validated code), we’re excited to have finally launched the new 2nd Floor website.

A website is never “complete” and should always be kept fresh with updates and features and our site is no different. We were so eager to launch that we decided to do so without having all of the cool features we have planned for the site, so please check back for them soon. If you’re interested in being notified when the site is updated, you can subscribe to the feed or join the e-newsletter; we’ll make announcements using both.

As always, we welcome your feedback so if you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Don’t ignore social media

posted by Scott on February 22nd, 2009

When the topic of social media comes up amongst friends or clients, I find that some people want to be at the forefront of it, while others think that its just another fad that will pass over time, so they choose to ignore it. Social media marketing will never replace traditional marketing, but it will continue to evolve and should be a part of your marketing strategy. Read more »

Improve your email marketing practices

posted by Scott on February 20th, 2009

More and more businesses are trying to figure out how to use email marketing to improve their  communication (and sales) to their customer base. I’d like to share a few quick things that I’ve learned along the way to help improve your email marketing practices.

Don’t ignore your customers. By waiting 3 months in between messages, your customers may not be aware of any new products or services that you are offering. If you haven’t communicated with them in awhile, send out a special message to reconnect with them. Read more »

Benefits of web-based applications

posted by Scott on February 13th, 2009

Below are some excerpts from an article that I had written for Smart Company magazine, so I thought I’d go ahead and post it to our blog.

Get Your Office Off the Treadmill of Traditional Software and Online for the Benefits of Web-based Applications

I’m about to send the draft of this story to the editor by e-mail through my free Gmail account with Google. There. I just used a Web-based application to complete a business transaction. Now that I’m done, I might do some shopping on Amazon or e-Bay, check in with my friends on FaceBook, and then update my fitness and nutrition schedule at SparkPeople.

Whether you’re aware of it or not, every day most of us already employ Web-based applications on our computers — from e-mail and retail to wikis, discussion boards, blogs and role-playing games. So don’t be intimidated by the term when it comes to using this free or low-cost technology to benefit your business. Simply put, a “Web-based application” is just software that comes from and remains on the Web. These tools and utilities run on a remote server rather than your desktop computer or network. You access them through your browser, like Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox. They don’t need to be downloaded, installed or configured — and most importantly in these belt-tightening times, the software often doesn’t even need to be purchased. Read more »

Simple web design = win

posted by Scott on February 10th, 2009

The “scatter shot” approach of throwing a bunch of information or products on a page of a website is not always the best method to attract customers. By keeping it simple, we help the user focus on the services or products that you want to sell instead of forcing them to forget why they visited your site in the first place. A couple quick thoughts that I have on simple website design: Read more »
