When the topic of social media comes up amongst friends or clients, I find that some people want to be at the forefront of it, while others think that its just another fad that will pass over time, so they choose to ignore it. Social media marketing will never replace traditional marketing, but it will continue to evolve and should be a part of your marketing strategy.
The decline in popularity of MySpace is one reason many detractors think that social media is just a passing fad. However, when one social media falls, another is there to take its place. According to Comscore, Facebook is now more popular than MySpace and the number of Americans using Twitter has increased from 9% to 11% in just three months. LinkedIn now boasts over 30 million users!
Don’t be fooled by the downturn of a single social network; social media is going to continue to grow through 2009. Don’t get left behind while your competitors are using it to increase communication (and sales) with their target customers.
